Welcome Kevin Bongard!

Kevin BongardSay welcome to our new bass player, Kevin Bongard. We were fortunate enough to have Kevin see us at the Wooden Nickel open mic in December and we got together to jam after the holidays. Kevin is a great guy and kick ass bass player and Mike and I are stoked to have him playing with us. We’ve already got the set list together so we’ll be playing a bunch of shows real soon. Keep checking back for new shows!

We’re looking for a bass player

And so the hunt begins… yes Vic and Neal have decided to part ways with Asyst to focus on their kick ass band, Brokenpath. We wish both of them best of luck and can’t wait to rock the stage together! What does that mean for Asyst - well we need a bass player! Mike and I have decided to return to the three piece format and we’re already cranking out new song ideas. We’re looking for a technical player that likes playing with different sounds and textures, not afraid of any genres of music and generally laid back. Lead  or backing vocal experience would be great as well. Most importantly we are looking for someone who enjoys writing and playing music for music’s sake. We have plenty of sound clips on our myspace page so hit us up if you’re interested in trying out. We practice twice a week (Monday and Wednesday evenings 9pm - 11pm) and usually have 1-4 shows a month. Hope to hear from ya soon.

New songs up at Myspace

Head over to our Myspace page to check out the latest songs - Burn It Down and Withdrawn. These were recorded live at our rehearsal space. It’s just a little of the new material we have been working on lately. We’ll probably record and post more of the new stuff soon - we want everyone to learn them so they can sing along with us at shows - we’re also handing these out on CD occasionally as well so be sure to ask for them at our next show. Here are all the new songs so far:

  • Burn It Down
  • Withdrawn
  • P.O.W.
  • Close Your Eyes
  • Fake

The list is growing! We have 4 or 5 more songs that are halfway there. What does this mean? It means that we will have enough material for another CD very soon! As always we’ll keep you posted as those plans develop, until then we’ll be playing as many shows as we can get so you can hear all the old and new hits. Thanks for the support!

Asyst announces new guitar player!

NealAsyst would like to officially welcome Neal Engelhaupt to the band!

After several months of searching unsuccessfully for a second guitarist we have finally found our guy. We’ve known him for a while and when we found out that he was available for hire, we snapped him up. He’s a killer guitar player, song-writer and vocalist. We’ve been spending the last month going through all the songs and re-learning some classics. All of them sound huge with the addition of his guitar playing, you won’t be disappointed!

Please join us in welcoming Neal to the family at our first show of 2007 (and now as a four piece once again) this Saturday January 20th at the Lava Lounge. Don’t miss it!

Who said radio was dead?

So. Two important things of note.

1. We got played on 107.7 The Bone last night as part of their local show. We sent them a CD and they independantly picked “Gone” as the track to play. The Bone has great coverage in the Bay Area so this is great exposure for us, but we can’t let it stop there. We’d like all of our friends and fans help in requesting more of us on The Bone! You can call them up at 1-888-303-BONE or email Joe Rock at rock@thebone.net. Thank you!!

2. The great local magazine INK has a feature story on our local station X 103.9 and it’s format change to rap/rock. They even asked our opinion. Check it out!

Once again, thank you for all the support and coming out to the shows and leaving us comments and sending us messages! It’s so important to get feedback from everyone to keep this thing going, we couldn’t do it without you!

Don’t forget your guitar stand…

IMG_5096.JPG …because when you forget your mic stands you can use it as one.

We had an awesome time playing at the Krazy Koyote, by far our best playing experience in Gilroy ever. We made some friends and hopefully new fans. We also didn’t bring our mic stands. Now seeing as neither Vic or I were going to wear Mike’s head mic (I love Queensryche but I’m not prepared to go there yet), we had to brush up on our McGuyver skills. With a little electrical tape, two guitar stands and a steel rod procured from the fence of a local convenience store to remain unamed, we fashioned together a dual mic stand worthy of Van Halen.

Now I’m not one to brag, but it rocked. In true rock star fashion Vic and I sung over each others shoulders, made rock and roll faces and stomped our way through the songs. We don’t need no stinking mic stands! We must thank Mike for his ingenious mechanical mad scientist skills.

We got Ink!

Hello friends and lovers,

Check out the latest edition of Ink Magazine. Guess who’s in it? Asyst! We have a nice feature article with some really cool photos so it’s well worth checking out. It’s available in those special boxes all over Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas and beyond - we saw some right around the corner at Green Valley Cinemas. They’re free!

Can’t find a copy? No sweat, you can also read it online at http://www.mbayink.com. Of course then you can’t make little clippings of us and hang it on your fridge! Let us know what you think of the interview!

Berkeley Berkeley Berkeley!

This Saturday we’re playing at the Starry Plough in Berkeley! This is our first chance to play a show there and we would really like to make a good first impression. For that, we need your help! The more people that show up the more the venue will be likely to have us back. Hey no bullshit from us, we want you there so we can get more shows! So we can play bigger venues! So we can quit our day jobs and do this for a living!

Seriously, we couldn’t do it without all of you that listen to our music. We’ve received a lot of great feedback on the album and it feels great to know that people are out there listening to our stuff. Thank you for all the support! This is going to be a big year for us :)
